Don Nichols is the founder of the firm Nichols, Kaster & Anderson. He obtained his law degree in 1971 from the University of Minnesota. He subsequently taught law students at the university while gaining an early exposure to the court room through his participation in hundreds of cases. He authored his first legal publication and began lecturing to lawyers and judges about various aspects of trial practice within a few years of his law school graduation. He has since given seminars to lawyers in over 100 cities across the United States.
Don Nichols is a trial lawyer practicing both criminal and civil law. He has tried several high profile and landmark cases, including the very first case establishing the right of an employee not to take a polygraph test and one of the earliest cases to contest the validity of non-compete clauses in employment contracts. Additionally, his successful representation of sports celebrities in cases like State v. Tommy Kramer (I&II), has earned him a national reputation as a tenacious trial attorney.
Don Nichols is a member of several professional organizations, including: Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association, National Employment Lawyers Association, Minnesota Employment Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and Minnesota Society of Criminal justice.
He is also admitted to practice before all Minnesota state courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
